It's nice that the US tax season closes a couple of weeks before ours, as it provides a good reminder to get your ass in gear and do your #taxes.

It's also nice that we don't have some inept billionaire and his underlings firing #CRA staff and raiding its databases.

Also nice we don't have a fascist government ignoring the courts and human rights and disappearing people to third world concentration camps.

Wow, that got dark pretty fast.

Don't forget to vote, Canada.

The result is an unprecedented effort to use government data to support the admin’s #immigration policies. That includes #information people have reported about themselves for years while paying #taxes or applying for #housing — believing that information would not be used against them for immigration purposes. #Legal experts say the data sharing is a breach of #privacy rules that help ensure trust in government programs & services.

#Bigtech doesn’t pay their #taxes. Not even close to what others pay.
Which means, to keep the country running other companies and the people have to pay for bridges, streets etc.

“The big American tech firms known as the “Silicon Six” have been accused of paying almost $278bn (£211bn) less corporate income tax in the past decade compared with the statutory rate for US companies making the same profits.”

Poilievre's view on taxes not just wrong, it's dangerous. The average Canadian household receives about $41,000 in public services every year. If you're “selfmade,” you relied on a public education, then maybe a taxsubsidized college or university. You may work at a company that used business grants. You relied on government to make sure your food and water didn't poison you. Don't forget national security.

Germany does not want to tax big tech. Every time France comes up with a bold vision for Europe, it’s the Germans who complain again.

It’s like that guy you know who always needs to be against something, just on principle.

I find this whole argument convoluted. What do they think will Big Tech do if they get taxed? Kill the entire EU business and rather have no profits instead of less?

What makes Ferguson's position on the state's budget crunch so alarming is that the Democratic party in the state legislature has been whipping votes and checking in with voters about introducing progressive taxation solutions. The state dems, seem to fear cutting services more than raising taxes.

In stark contrast to the dem governor Ferguson says he'll only Ok regressive taxes, and won't tax billionaire or millionaire income!
