thesaigoneer<p>An accident waiting to happen. So, when I was stumblin' around making those Gnome choices there was always something not how I wanted it. Introducing Obelix-Saigon, my take on Gnome, based on SilverUblue. 42 already of course. Can't let Asterix and Idefix wander out there without Obelix, right?</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/gnome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gnome</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/UniversalBlue" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UniversalBlue</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fedora</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://github.com/thesaigoneer/obelix-saigon" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/thesaigoneer/obelix</span><span class="invisible">-saigon</span></a></p>

Virgile Andreani<p>I find some UI choices of Gnome/Ubuntu very confusing. The split screen feature never works as I expect it to.<br>More precisely, my problem is that when I set a window to a half screen, it asks me what other window I want on the other half. And the two halves are linked. I never want that. I would much rather prefer that when I set a window to a half screen, it lets me do just that and not worry about the other half. Is there a setting somewhere that does that?</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Ubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ubuntu</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Gnome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gnome</span></a></p>
IanTwenty<p>I love that <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/gnome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gnome</span></a> disks has a benchmark built-in. I was able to quickly workout why a live ISO felt slow and switch to a better thumb drive.</p>

Is there some way to snap windows to a grid in Gnome? I don't want a tiling window manager or custom snap zones (like gSnap). I want just maybe 20x20 static grid to snap window position and size into.

@eri okay but while it's actually been my preferred photo editor for over a decade - the gimp team constantly makes decisions that are... Extremely questionable at best, and the choices of what drawing tools to include are just as affected by this.
#Gnome as a whole has a "we know better" attitude to UX and #gimp takes it furthest of all.
I prefer the #KDE approach: sane defaults but you can customize everything. The most user friendly workflow is unique to each user.
