AI6YR Ben<p>Volunteered for ham radio support for an event today. The most exciting thing was losing two amateurs who weren't responding to their radios when called, LOL. Oh, and the Abba tribute band. <a href="https://m.ai6yr.org/tags/hamradio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hamradio</span></a> <a href="https://m.ai6yr.org/tags/volunteering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>volunteering</span></a> <a href="https://m.ai6yr.org/tags/abba" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>abba</span></a></p>
Clair :vinyl_record:<p>I think it's time to go for an amateur radio license. It's something I've thought about in the past, but not very seriously, until now. </p><p>I have no experience with it. So, not sure where to start other than to get a license and go from there. </p><p><a href="https://squid.cafe/tags/hamradio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hamradio</span></a></p>

Want to know why #HamRadio is dying? Just visit qrz.com. I posted a reply to a forum post there. I know, I know, stupid me. And it was something fairly constructive. I got jumped on by a bunch of uptight fools. When I challenged one, I immediately (like in 5 seconds) got banned from the forum. This is not how we make progress. This is not how we bring new diverse talent into the hobby. Qrz.com, you suck.

Antennas have always been a weak point of mine. After a decade away from the hobby, and downsizing from a house to a ground level duplex I'm trying to figure out what the hell I'm going to do for an antenna.

I've got my rig picked out (FT 991a) but wondering if I take the compromise and do something like their ATAS-120A and slapping that sucker on a tripod in the backyard when I want to play.

Looking for opinions / advice.

#hamradio #antenna

I was out to play a bit of portable #hamradio around the corner. Nice working conditions. but I will need to look for another spot. First I got a lengthy discussion with a local hunter and then an armada of boomers with electric bikes invaded the cabin for a party 😂😭

At the risk of igniting some controversy, but hopefully stimulating debate, I’d like to ponder the question: #Meshtastic and #LoRa mesh networks in general, #MeshCore, #Reticulum etc. … Are they “Amateur Radio”? #HamRadio - I know the technical UK answer “No, unless on 433MHz with the “Licensed Operator” setting on, with amateur license; no encryption, so no Reticulum allowed”. I’ll leave the question a bit open like that without further qualifications. Please boost for visibility! 73 Matt
