the cartridge pleated skirt is almost done, only requires a patch on a small tear I couldn't cut around, but I need some sewing thread in a different colour from what I already have.
the bodice is done, I've worn it today, it's good (other than a small change I want to make to the pattern for the next time).
When I'll have some time with no rain at a time when I can take pictures I will, and then there will be a blog post.
So, now, I suddenly found myself with no #handsewing project in progress¹, and that can't do!
¹ ok, there is one. I don't want to pick that one up right now

So, this afternoon I cut the fabric for a new shirt, because one can't have enough shirts, right?
This time it's the same purplish-blue cotton popeline I've used for my vaccine jab shirt (which uses the historically accurate vampire shirt pattern), and I've cut the 1880s pattern, but with wide and longish rectangular sleeves instead of the tapered ones of that pattern.
I wanted to have honeycombing on the front, but I've done a sample and it has taken significantly more fabric than I expected (the instruction said it would take twice the fabric, but it's more like three times), so now I'm wondering what do to. I could go for gathers instead.
I can start preparing the collar and cuffs, anyway, and possibly some other seam.
Magari potrei arricciare.
Intanto comunque posso preparare colletto e polsini, e magari fare qualche altra cucitura.

Have I finished the cartridge pleated skirt? of course not (it's getting closer, however)
Have I started to cut the lining fabric for the next project? maaaaaybe :D
I need a bodice to go with that skirt, and this morning I had some time when I could cut some fabric and quickly sew a mockup by machine.
I'm not 100% sure about the result, I may need to remove a bit of ease, but the fabric I'm going to use for the bodice was cheap enough¹ that I think I will cut it and I can always take it in later.
¹ a mystery fabric that was listed as something like 100% cotton, but had “lana” (wool) in the name, smells like wet sheep when wet, and looks and feels as if it has a cotton (or other plant fiber) in the weft and wool in the warp.

three out of four panels of the bodice have been lined, and I could now start assembling them and try it on.
except for the fact that I suspect that a better way to do it would be to finish the lacing eyelets before assembling the bodice. it's probably not that much of a difference, but I'm also writing down instructions, and I want to do things right.
and this means that I have to wait MOAR time to see how the bodice will look like!

yes, I have been having issues reading from that SD for some time now, but surely it was the reader, not the SD itself, since trying it again worked the second or third time.
RIGHT?
(recovery attempts will happen later on, and thankfully it's just a few pictures from the skirt I'm making (which means that there won't be step-by-step pictures in the instructions I'm writing, but I can always make a second skirt later on) and not pictures taken during an unique trip / meeting of friends)

this was my first experiment to use up tiny fabric scraps. i stuck the pieces together with water soluble fabric glue then sewed a grid over the fabric to secure, before washing off the glue. it’s since survived several wears and washes!
the process was tedious but on the upside it didn’t require a base fabric to sew on to. i would like to try other methods in future, could a flour paste replace the synthetic glue?

The first thing I noticed was that the pain was gone. The tall, thin, hooded figure let me bask in that for a moment.
IT IS TIME
"Oh," I said, looking down at the frail vessel I had inhabited all my life. "Right."
COME
"Do you remember," I asked as we walked, "everyone you come for?"
YES
"Fondly?"
I DO NOT JUDGE. AS A RULE, I SPEND LITTLE TIME WITH PEOPLE AS THEY LIVE
"No, but you spend some time with them after, like now."

In articles, writing articles, doing stuff and being noted and remembered in general.
"Oh, I have Finnish friends!" says someone from Poland, and I just wonder how we get around so much. In 2024 there were 5 637 214 people in Finland. That's not a huge amount!

I've had classmates who went to Germany for two months, and multiple who went to finish their studies abroad, because their specialisation had much better opportunities in Vienna, Glasgow, some small town in France that had a museum of something... It's really quite nice that they could just do that, and got support from the government for it!
But yes. Another tick on the absolutely everywhere column. 😄

Gosh heck, anecdotally as a child every single child in my class had at least one pen pal in Namibia, sometimes three, because we did a pen pal exchange with a school over there...

in reply to OutoftheBlueDD • • •@OutoftheBlueDD I think it might be that the average Estonian is much better at Finnish than the average Finn is at Estonian, because good grief do we love to go vacation over there... Not just because it's cheaper, but also because it's beautiful and has a lot of history and culture! But also because it's cheaper.
Listening to spoken Estonian feels like your brain is a bit scrambled and you're just missing what people are saying, while feeling like you really should be understanding it... Reading it is like: "Oh! Oh I get why that word is like that!"
