@rl_dane I have so many outstanding personal projects I desperately need to glimpse even a tiny shred of self-validation that I don't want to start with an easily-to-compile project, spend three hours trying to get it working properly with Nix, only to end up the day with a feeling of dejection.

@rl_dane Oh, 100%. The principles of the declarative configuration and the ability to use flakes is why I'm with it.

The problem is Nix the language. For someone who spent better part of forty years learning new languages and being adept at them, my inability to grok Nix is a source of endless frustration. I got Debian packaging in a few weeks, I figured out RPMs and even Gentoo in an equal amount of time. But Nix? Nope.

But, flakes are awesome.

I would have considered Guix, but they have that entire "we don't talk about Bruno" thing with nonfree code which is something I can't handle either. I use commercial projects, I play games, and need things beyond what they can support.
